The objective is not simply to import data. A successful migration creates a clear bridge between the final position in Bexio, Banana, Sage, Comatic or Excel and the opening position in Xero.
Choose the cut-off
A month-end or VAT-period end is often easier to control than an arbitrary day. Decide whether detailed historical transactions will be imported or whether Xero will begin with verified opening balances and selected comparative data.
Clean the source before moving
Complete bank reconciliations, review receivables and payables, clear suspense accounts, confirm payroll and VAT balances, and document unusual items. Migrating unresolved differences simply transfers the problem into the new ledger.
Validate the opening position
After import, compare the trial balance, open customer and supplier items, bank balances, VAT accounts, fixed assets and retained earnings. Preserve exports from the former system and document how totals map into Xero.
